Several cable companies have boosted their top speeds in 2014. In late April, Time Warner Cable announced major speed increases in specific parts of their service area (Los Angeles and New York) with a top speed of 300mbps.
There are several ways to build out a fiber broadband infrastructure to homes and businesses. The traditional methods are to use existing utility poles or to trench new fiber conduit along rights of ways. However, other technologies are available to use other existing infrastructure.
AT&T does not appear to be delivering on their promised 300mbps speeds to Austin Texas residents.
