If you are even slightly considered a techie, you have heard and even tried Netflix or Hulu to watch a streaming movie or catchup on a missed season of a TV series. Netflix is already known for turning the video rental industry upside down and closing the well-known Blockbuster video.
While the FCC is taking comments about increasing the minimum speed standards for broadband from 4mbps to between 10mbps and 25mbps, there is now a task force exploring a 400 gigabit ethernet standard.
Today, the FCC defines broadband as a connection with download speed of at least 4mbps and an upload speed of at least 1mbps. This definition was an upgrade from the previous definition of 768kbps prior to 2010. As of May 2014, the FCC has been inquiring and seeking comments on increasing the definition to between 10mbps and 25mbps.
